Frequently asked questions
What is the right internal temperature for meat?
The Hehku app suggests a target temperature for the ingredient you choose and tells you when to take the food off the heat so that the target is reached after resting. The app alerts you once the target temperature is reached. Accuracy is ±0.3 °C.
How far does the range reach?
About 3 metres from the thermometer to the dock and about 50 metres from the dock to your phone. The dock works as a signal repeater, so always place it next to the oven or grill — then you can follow the cook from indoors even when the grill is outside. Walls and other obstacles shorten the range. The connection is Bluetooth 5.2.
Does the thermometer survive oven and grill heat?
It does. The upper part of the thermometer withstands 500 °C and the maximum temperature for the measuring section is 105 °C. If the temperature in the oven or grill goes above 105 °C, always push the thermometer into the meat all the way to the safety mark so the measuring section stays protected inside the meat.
Note that Hehku measures the internal temperature of the meat, not the temperature of the cooking chamber. That measurement is hard to get accurate, so it was left out.
Is the thermometer dishwasher safe?
Yes. The thermometer is IP68 waterproof and dishwasher safe. You can also wash it by hand with soapy water. Wash the thermometer before first use as well.
How long does the battery last?
The thermometer battery lasts 36 hours. Five minutes of charging is enough for two hours of cooking, and a full charge takes 20 minutes. The dock has a battery of its own, so it works for a long time without mains power, and it charges over USB-C.
The thermometer has no power switch: it turns on when you lift it out of the dock, and it only charges in the dock. While charging, the thermometer cannot be connected to.
How do I connect the thermometer to my phone?
Download the Hehku app, connect the dock to power with the USB-C cable and lift the thermometer out of the dock — it turns on automatically. The green light on the dock stays lit when the thermometer is connected; a blinking green light means there is no connection.
Eight thermometers can be connected to the same phone at once, but a single thermometer can only be connected to one phone at a time.
